Mobile computing

Sheridan's Architectural Technology and Architectural Technician programs both use mobile computing, so you'll have 24/7 online access to lecture notes and other class material plus the ability to collaborate on group projects wherever and whenever.

Our graduates can qualify to become, and legally use the term, "Licensed Architectural Technologists" through fulfilling the requirements of the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario (AATO). As well, in joining the Technologist arm of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) upon graduation, the OAAAS, you can enjoy the benefits of what the OAA has to offer, from resources, to access to in-house liability insurance.

Additionally, you can have the opportunity to be examined, and apply for, a Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) in order to apply for building permits on behalf of clients.

Career Opportunities

Our students work in a variety of fields including design and drafting, construction supervision, estimating, specification writing, project management and municipal building departments. Students who graduate from the two-year Technician program have the knowledge, upon graduation, to work as a project team member and, with guidance, contribute to the design, technology and management of small construction projects. If you're a three-year Technologist graduate, by the end of your third year you will have demonstrated the ability to analyze requirements, implement design, technical and/or management solutions for small construction projects and, under direct supervision, be a team member for large and complex construction projects.

Architectural Technology (Advanced Diploma) Program Learning Outcomes

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Communicate with clients, contractors, other building professionals, and approval authorities.
  • Prepare, read, interpret, and revise drawings, and other graphical representations used in building projects.
  • Obtain, analyze, prepare, and revise specifications and other project documents used in design and construction.
  • Prepare estimates of time, costs, and quantity, and participate in the tendering process.
  • Solve technical problems related to building projects through the application of principles of building science and mathematics.
