Что я буду изучать?

A degree in Spanish & Latin American Studies from Dalhousie helps you engage with that massive group, and provides a solid foundation for anyone wanting to experience the Hispanic world. With language and translation courses catering to everyone from beginner to advanced speakers, and others focusing on Spanish and Latin American civilization, history, politics, literature, and film, our diverse program immerses our students in the entire Hispanic experience.

What will I learn?

The Spanish and Latin American Studies program is about much more than just learning the language. All of our courses explore the diversity and culture of the Spanish-speaking world: from the study of Hispanic literature and film, to the exploration of Spanish society and the Cuban Revolution.

You don’t need to know how to speak Spanish to study in our program—many of our non-language courses are taught in English and open as electives to students in other programs.

For students interested in becoming fluent, our language courses range from the study of Spanish used in international business to phonetics and translation. If you have some prior knowledge of the language, you’ll need to take a placement test to determine your level of ability and which language course you’ll start in.

Sample courses:

  • Translation
  • Introduction to Hispanic Literary Study
  • Cuban Cultural Revolution

Careers and future study:

Knowledge of the language is an asset if you want to work in fields as diverse as international business and journalism. Some career options to consider are:

  • international business executive
  • translator
  • foreign service officer
  • education

Future studies could include programs at the graduate level in arts and business administration or a professional program such as law.
