Laurentian University’s programs in Philosophy offer a solid foundation in philosophy and ethics while helping students to improve their reasoning skills. Students are trained to understand and evaluate ideas that influence numerous fields such as law, business, politics, religion, morality, science and education.

Topics may include biotechnology and artificial life, creationism versus evolutionary theory, sexuality, environmental ethics, professional ethics, business ethics, technology and its impact, database security and privacy of information, freedom, and responsibility.

The Philosophy programs are offered jointly by Laurentian University and the University of Sudbury, in English and in French. The Ontario Ministry of Education recognizes philosophy as a teachable subject.

Minimum overall 'B' average (or GPA 3.0 on a 4.0 scale) in a recognized academic grade 12 program. At least 4 different academic subjects at the matriculation level must be represented in the high school diploma. (A SAT I score of 1,650 or composite ACT of 24 is recommended, but not required). English Language Requirements: Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) - Test Of English as a Foreign Language: 88 overall; Computer-based TOEFL (CBT) - Test Of English as a Foreign Language: 230 overall; IELTS Academic - International English Language Testing System: 6.5 overall No band lower than 6.0; Cambridge Assessment English: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a Cambridge Score of 176 or more; CAEL - Canadian Academic English Language Assessment: 70 overall No part below 60; Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees - CanTEST: 4.5 overall No part below 4; PTE Academic - Pearson Test of English: 60 overall.
