Become a creator of new technologies and gain a deep understanding of the theory, design and application of computer science by exploring a wide range of areas including software development, algorithms, networking and graphics. You’ll not only become a strong programmer, but will master the skills needed to shape how we'll use computers and interact with each other in the future.

In this program, you’ll gain the foundational knowledge to create new and innovative technologies. Courses in software development, algorithms, networking, cloud and web computing, databases, graphics, machine learning and user interface design allow students to develop areas of specialized expertise.

  • Introduction to Computer Graphics and Animation

Students can also choose to build skills in specialized areas by completing a certificate. Students can choose from one of six areas, allowing graduates to show they have achieved a level of proficiency in a particular area. You can also enhance your studies with career-focused work experience. Co-op allows you to apply classroom theory, explore career options and build your resume.

Choosing computer science at Dalhousie opens you up to a world of opportunity. Computer science permeates nearly all human endeavours from business and science to entertainment and medicine. Upon graduation, you could find yourself in one of the following careers:

  • web developer
  • digital health professional
  • user-interface designer

Future studies could include programs at the graduate level in computer science, electronic commerce, or health informatics.

To be considered for admission into the BEDS program, you must complete at least two years of specific undergraduate level courses. A minimum average of B- is required. Two years in a university degree program (twenty courses), with a minimum 2.5 grade point average (B- average). English language requirement: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - 237 (computer-based) 90 (iBT) and no lower than 20 in each band; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - 6.5 overall and no lower than 6.0 in each band; Michigan English Test (MELAB) – 55; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 61 overall and no lower than 50 in each skill.

  • A minimum overall average of 70% in five academic Grade 12 courses
  • A final grade of at least 70% in Grade 12 academic English and any other required subject.
