The Bachelor of Science Dental Hygiene is a three-year full-time program. Applicants must complete at least one year of university-level coursework before admission.
Students applying to the program need to be aware that they will be expected to meet the Technical Standards Policy.
The Dental Hygiene curriculum includes courses in biomedical, behavioural, and clinical sciences. In each year of the program, students participate in external practicum experiences within the city and surrounding districts in various community settings, such as hospitals, schools, long-term care facilities, and community agencies/clinics. An experience in an external rural clinic is required.

Applicants to the Dental Hygiene program must complete at least one year of university-level coursework before admission. All academic requirements must be completed or in-progress (registered) at the time of application.
Applicants must present:
a minimum of *30 of transferable post-secondary coursework (i.e., 10 half-year courses)
a course load of at least *27 in one Fall/Winter academic year (i.e., 9 half-year courses). A Fall/Winter academic year is September 1 to April 30 inclusive.

Required Courses
For required courses, a minimum grade of C- (or equivalent) is required for transfer (Non-University of Alberta) courses. For University of Alberta courses, a minimum grade of D is required.
Some required courses can be met through advanced credit from International Baccalaureate (IB) or Advanced Placement (AP) programs.
Overall GPA (OGPA)
A minimum overall GPA of 2.7 is required for admission. In order to be competitive, applicants should strive for an overall GPA of 3.0.
English language Requirement:
TOEFL: iBT: At least 90 with a minimum score of 21 points in each section
IELTS(Academic): At least 6.5 with no band less than 6.0
CanTEST(Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees): At least 4.5, with no part lower than 4
PTE(Academic): At least 61, with no less than 60 in each communicative skill
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language assessment) Either CAEL (paper) or CAEL CE (computer): A score of at least 70, with no band less than 60
Duolingo English Test: 120 for English Language Proficiency, with no sub score below 100
