Hands-on learning in a shop environment, classroom theory, MITT's Work Skills Series workshops, and the opportunity to complete an eight-week work practicum combine to equip Automotive Service Technician students with career-ready fundamentals in automotive repair, basic diagnostics, and troubleshooting in just eight months. Graduates who meet specific criteria can earn credit toward Apprenticeship Manitoba Level 1.Automotive Service Technicians start as apprentices, but once apprenticeship is obtained, graduates can gain positions as a red seal automotive mechanic, a foreperson or service adviser. For a technician with business skills, ownership of an automotive repair shop is a possibility. High school diploma (or expected completion within 45 days of the program start date), or equivalent. International applicants must meet the general entrance requirements based on country/curriculum of study. Applicants must also meet the program-specific requirements, including:

  • Senior level Math with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.
  • Senior level First Language Literature with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent.

*All high school grades will be converted to an equivalent Manitoba grade scale.

English language requirement:

  • IELTS (Academic) (International English Language Testing System): 6.0 overall, no band less than 5.5
  • PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic): 54
  • TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet Based): Overall score of 78, with no less than 17 in each component
  • CAEL CE & CAEL Online (Canadian Academic English Assessment): 60
  • Cambridge English Advanced Certificate (C1): Scale Score of 180 / Grade of C
