The Honours Bachelor of Construction Management (HBCM) program provides students with the knowledge, skills and abilities they will need to succeed in a career in the industrial, residential, institutional, or commercial construction industries. Graduates of the HBCM program will be prepared to make meaningful contributions to the prosperity, sustainability and resiliency of Ontario’s economic future.
As Ontario’s construction sector enjoys sustained and significant expansion, the growing demand for skilled workers continues to create excellent employment opportunities for knowledgeable and well-prepared graduates to fill the estimated 118,000 new construction sector jobs that will be created over the next 15 years.
It is anticipated that demand for well-trained employees will be even more pronounced in occupations that require an advanced level of skill, such as construction managers, estimators, job site superintendents and project managers.
Program Details
Durham College’s Schools of Skilled Trades, Apprenticeship and Renewable Technology (START); Science and Engineering and Technology (SET); and Business, IT and Management (BITM) will share in the delivery of this unique program. Taking advantage of access to state-of-the art facilities and resources at both the Oshawa and Whitby campuses, students will acquire the knowledge and expertise necessary to fill roles in leadership and management positions in the construction industry.
Students will gain a firm grounding in the theory, principles, and practices of construction science as well as the business acumen and leadership skills to effectively facilitate the management of construction projects to successful completion, with the opportunity to synthesize their learning through two 14-week field placements.
HBCM graduates will have the foundational knowledge to pursue additional certifications including the Gold-Seal Certified (GSC) by the Canadian Construction Association (CCA), and Construction Estimator Certified (CEC) by the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS), Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Insitute (PMI), In addition, graduates of the program will have the knowledge and skills to pursue further graduate study in Construction management or related fields.
