Start with soil

Claim your place in reclaiming disturbed lands and minimizing industry’s effects on natural habitats.

Be work-force ready with our conservation and reclamation major. You’ll learn how to classify, manage and conserve soils. You'll recognize and understand a variety of ecosystems.

Ultimately you can lead practical and specialized revegetation and reclamation projects on disturbed lands.

Learn how to do detailed site assessments. Apply reclamation regulations, guidelines and techniques to particular landscapes and disturbed lands.

You’ll develop those, and other, skills in hands-on field labs. You’ll learn more than 20 applied skills industry wants.

On field trips to forested, mined, cultivated and native lands, you’ll see current industry practices and technologies as well as see reclaimed areas. You’ll also meet and connect with government and industry.

Further Study Options
Lakeland Options

Double major - spend another year and do another environmental science major.
Applied degree - you have direct entry into Lakeland College’s Bachelor of Applied Science: Environmental Management program.

Further certification

Graduates are eligible:

for a Biological Technician in Training designation through the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (ASPB)
to apply as an Environmental Professional in Training (Ept) through ECO Canada. You can upgrade to an EP after you have completed 5 years of relevant experience
to apply as an Agrology Technologist in Training (AIT) to earn a Registered Technologist in Agrology (RTAg) designation through the Alberta Institute of Agrologists

2+2 options: Diploma to a Degree

After Lakeland, spend 2 years at another institution to earn another credential. Lakeland has transfer agreements with these institutions.

English Language Requirements:

TOEFL ((Test of English as a Foreign Language) - minimum of 78 on the internet-based test (iBT) with a minimum score of 19 in each of the four tested areas.

IELTS ((International English Language Testing System) - minimum score of 6.0 overall with at least 6.0 on each band score on the Academic test.

CAEL (Canadian Assessment of English Language) - minimum score of 60 overall with at least 55 on each band score.

MET (Michigan English Test) - minimum score of 58 on all bands.

Duolingo – minimum score of 100.

PTE-A (Pearson Test of English, Academic) - minimum score of 53 with no communication skill score lower than 50.
