The MA in Interdisciplinary Humanities will take you on an academic expedition through three related disciplines: English, Philosophy, and History. Delve into
the foundation of what it means to be human, considering major perspectives
on humanity’s purpose along the way. Whether you are a scholar, educator, or professional, this program will augment your intellectual toolkit, sharpen your critical thinking, and deepen your personal awareness and professional purpose. PROGRAM DELIVERY

This MA comprises 30 semester hours and offers multiple entry points. Complete the degree full-time in one year (Fall, Spring and Summer semesters) or go part-time and create a program adapted to your unique educational plan. The program’s flexible learning environment, which includes some distance learning opportunities, can be tailored to your specific area(s) of interest, and you may choose general humanities approach or concentrate on English, History, or Philosophy. Candidates satisfy their degree requirements by taking three core courses, disciplinary course electives and, in most cases, a final assignment, which may be a traditional major research essay / thesis or an applied-research project. The applied research project is a creative and innovative experiential assignment that is directly relevant to the candidate’s desired academic, educational or professional outcomes. No matter what approach to the program you take, academic accomplishment will serve you well in your career and personal journey.

Four-year undergraduate degree completed with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the final two years of the degree. English Language Scores: English as a Second Language (ESL) applicants achieving a minimum iBT TOEFL score of 100, or IELTS score of 7.0 overall, are considered to have achieved that level of proficiency, and may be eligible for direct entry to the MAEL program. Applicants scoring lower than this level, but with a minimum iBT TOEFL score of 100, or 7.0 overall, are eligible to apply for the TWU ESLI Pre-Master’s Program (PMP). Achievement of a PMP passing grade indicates demonstration of an acceptable level of English language proficiency for program entry.

a BA degree with 24 or more senior level (300-400) semester hours in one of the above disciplines

a strong BA program in diverse humanities disciplines

In addition to the standard admissions requirements international applicants are required to submit either a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score as proof of your English language abilities. Minimum TOEFL score for any graduate program is 100 iBT or equivalent. Minimum IELTS score for any graduate program is 7.0 on all bands.

Priority application deadline is April 1 for Fall, November 1 for Spring.
