The Electrical & Computer Engineering Department includes 14 full time faculty members, 5 adjuncts, and 60+ graduate students. The role of this department in the intellectual and technological growth of Nova Scotia and Canada is that of a catalyst for research and technology transfer. The collaboration of faculty members with companies, universities, and centers of excellence is an indication of the strengths of this department. Their graduates hold positions in both major industrial companies and small and medium enterprise companies.

Master of Applied Science (MASc.) Degree: this degree program is research or thesis based and requires the students to complete 4 courses (12 credits), a seminar course and a research thesis. Many of the MASc. students are expected to publish their papers in the peer-reviewed conferences. The normal time to complete this program is between 18 and 24 months. The Master of Applied Science degree is normally one of the requirements for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy degree program.

Completion of a minimum of a four-year DDS (or equivalent) from a university-based dental institution with a minimum overall average equivalent of A- (85%). English language requirement: computer-based TOEFL minimum of 100; IELTS score minimum of 7.5.

An applicant must meet the admission requirements below:

Possession of a baccalaureate degree or its academic equivalent from an academic institution recognized by Dalhousie, in which the language of instruction is English, and in a country where English is the principal language, or

Four years of full-time post-secondary instruction at a university where English is the primary language of instruction and in a country where English is the principal language, or

Possession of a baccalaureate degree or its academic equivalent from an academic institution recognized by Dalhousie with a satisfactory score on an approved English language examination such as TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language).

English language requirement:

  • Internet-based TOEFL (Academic iBT): 92
  • MELAB: 85
  • IELTS: 7
  • CAEL: 70 with no band score lower than 60
  • Dalhousie College of Continuing Education (CCE): A-
  • Pearson English Test PTE Academic: overall score of 65 and nothing below 54

The application deadline for September admission is Apr 01, January admission is August 31 and May admission is December 31.
