Что я буду изучать?

The MASc program provides students with an opportunity to pursue advanced study and research with the guidance of experts in their respective fields. Studying in a chosen area of specialty and developing skills through hands-on experience in the MSE world-class labs provides students with the ability to either pursue PhD studies or to move out into industry with enriched skills and knowledge. This full-time program demands commitment and passion for research in materials engineering. For those interested in continuing to PhD-level research, successful completion of the MASc is the normal route.

Program Requirements

Coursework. The program of study normally includes 2.0 full-course equivalents (FCEs) (four half courses), including:

MSE 1000H0, the mandatory weekly Graduate Research Seminar MASc (0.5 FCE)

three half courses (1.5 FCEs), one of which must be chosen from the list of MSE graduate course offerings.

JDE 1000H Ethics in Research, a non-credit graduate ethics seminar (0.0 FCE).

The required thesis is based upon research work carried out in the department. The thesis must be presented at an oral examination.

Applicants must have an appropriate bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, with a final year average of at least mid-B from a recognized university. Other English Language Requirements: TOEFL Paper-based Test Overall Score: 580, TWE: 4; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) score of 85, with no part score below 80; Cambridge English Proficiency/Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 76 (with at least 22 in each component and 32 in the writing component).

For students whose primary language is not English, the department requires a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with the following minimum scores:

​​paper-based TOEFL: minimum score of 580 and 4 on the Test of Written English (TWE)

Internet-based TOEFL: minimum score of 93/120 and 22/30 on the writing and speaking sections.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS): The minimum requirement is an overall band of 6.5, with no band below 6.0.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): The minimum scores required for the different TOEFL tests are:

Internet-based Test:

Minimum Requirement: total score of 100 + 22 on Writing

Discretionary Range: total score 89-99 +19 - 21 on Writing

Cambridge Assessment English C1: Advanced or C2: Proficiency: A minimum overall score of 180, with at least 170 in each component.

Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): The minimum score required to meet our English facility requirement is an overall score of 70 and no part below 60.

Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees (CanTEST): The minimum requirement is a total score of 4.5, and no part below 4.
