Get a competitive edge with Dalhousie’s Master of Health Administration (MHA) — an internationally recognized program that opens doors and increases the range of professional career options available to you. Condensed by one semester it offers the same competencies and high-quality programming as our existing MHA program.

Start in September and finish in 16 months. (three academic semesters plus a summer residency)

The new MHA is comprised of 15 three-credit hour courses and a six-credit hour Health Administration Residency (most students even receive a stipend). This program will provide you with comprehensive hands-on training and help you develop the diverse skills necessary for managing modern health care systems.

Program structure:

The Master of Health Administration (MHA) is now a 1.5 - year program:

Year 1:

Fall and winter terms: 5 courses per term of preparatory education plus an interprofessional health education course

4-month summer residency

Year 2:

Fall term: 5 courses to integrate and expand your skills plus an interprofessional health education course

Options include part-time study thesis research and law for health administrators or strategic decisions specialization. Joint degree programs are also available.

Degree requirements:

The MHA curriculum has both academic and hands-on components. It requires the successful completion of 51 credit hours. Please refer to the “Courses” section below for program requirements.

Students also maintain enrolment in IPHE 5900 (Interprofessional Health Education) for the duration of their MHA program. Successful completion of this course is required for graduation and will be recognized with a special Certificate in Interprofessional Collaboration presented by the Faculty of Health.

The Graduate Admission Committee for IDS accepts students who have a minimum of A- (GPA 3.7) average or higher over their last two years of full-time study in a relevant degree program, preferably an honours degree. English language requirement: Internet-based TOEFL (Academic iBT): 92; MELAB: 85; IELTS: 7; CAEL: 70 with no band score lower than 60; Dalhousie College of Continuing Education (CCE): A-; Pearson English Test PTE Academic: overall score of 65 and nothing below 54.

All candidates must satisfy the general requirements for admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. A 4-year bachelor degree (honours or equivalent) with a minimum B+ average (3.3 GPA) is required.
