This diploma provides a balanced training approach between hands-on practical experience and the theoretical/conceptual nature of IT security. Graduates will have an in-depth knowledge of various protocols, network standards, designs, and security solutions.

Computer hackers are continually developing new ways to gain access to networks. Business and industry require employees with the skills to help protect them. Graduates of the Network Security Diploma program offer IT security skills to help mitigate these threats.

Gain an in-depth knowledge of various protocols, network standards, designs, and security solutions in this diploma program that balances hands-on practical experience in state-of-the-art Cisco Labs with theoretical/conceptual knowledge of IT security.

The Network Security Diploma program is jointly offered through the University of Winnipeg (Professional, Applied and Continuing Education) and Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology.

While working towards their diploma, students are prepared to write certification exams for Cisco CCENT and CCNA, Microsoft MCITP and Cisco Security and their participation in MITT’s Work Skills Series workshops ensures they bring a solid foundation in employability and essential skills to the workplace.

High school diploma (or expected completion within 45 days of the program start date), or equivalent. International applicants must meet the general entrance requirements [PDF] based on country/curriculum of study. Applicants must also meet the program-specific requirements, including: Senior level Math with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent; Senior level First Language Literature with a grade of 50 per cent or higher, or equivalent. All high school grades will be converted to an equivalent Manitoba grade scale.

The general admission requirement for all regular full-time certificate and diploma programs is high school graduation (or expected completion within 45 days of the program start date). Applicants may apply while still enrolled in high school as long as they are able to provide an interim transcript.

English language requirement:

  • PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic): 54
  • TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet Based): Overall score of 78, with no less than 17 in each component
  • CAEL CE & CAEL Online (Canadian Academic English Assessment): 60
  • Cambridge English Advanced Certificate (C1): Scale Score of 180 / Grade of C
  • CanTEST (Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees): 4.0 in all components
  • MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery): 80
  • TOEFL PBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language - Paper Based): Overall score of 550, with no less than 50 (unscaled) in each component
  • Revised TOEFL Paper Delivered Test: 17 in Reading, Writing and Listening
