Overview

Prepare for further college studies or your future career in the health sciences sector in our unique culture-based program. This program will prepare you to meet the challenges of postsecondary education while you gain a solid understanding of Indigenous history and culture, as well as vital science and math skills.

Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes represent culminating demonstrations of learning and achievement. In addition, learning outcomes are interrelated and cannot be viewed in isolation of one another. As such, they should be viewed as a comprehensive whole. They describe performances that demonstrate that significant integrated learning by graduates of the program has been achieved.

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to

1. Discuss the Canadian Health Care System from an Indigenous perspective of health and wellbeing, and the role of the various careers within that system.

2. Describe Indigenous understanding and knowledge of holistic well being as it relates to the Self.

3. Apply oral and written communication skills to a level required by the health care industry and further vocational studies.

4. Apply problem solving and critical thinking skills to analyze and evaluate Indigenous issues and find solutions for technical mathematic and scientific problems.

5. Apply Indigenous knowledge while evaluating various aspects of our changing society to assist in developing a sense of personal and social responsibility as a citizen and health care worker in society.

6. Apply basic vocational skills drawn from the areas of Humanities, Social and Behavioural Sciences of Vocational Studies and Indigenous Knowledge required to succeed in Health Science careers.

7. Apply group and team skills that contribute to effective working relationships and the achievement of goals.

8. Describe Indigenous pride and discuss understanding of Self and society through knowledge gained in a wide range of subjects.

Applicants must have completed a OSSD or equivalent. If English is not your first language you must provide proof of English competency. You must have a minimum overall band score of 5.5 on the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or equivalent accepted English language proficiency test to be admitted to a postsecondary program at the college.
