Что я буду изучать?

This program prepares graduates with degrees or diplomas in telecommunications, electronics, or computer engineering/technology for work in emerging fields in the wireless telecommunications industry. Students will enhance their undergraduate knowledge with practical skills that include the use of industry standard tools (drive test tools, propagation tools, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, etc.), and the techniques required for success in the wireless industry. Students will broaden their familiarity with troubleshooting and the configuration of local area and wide area networks (LANs and WANs) and networking topics relevant to telecom carriers including virtual private networks, quality of service, and others. Cutting-edge topics which include long term evolution (LTE) and 5th generation wireless networks, high bandwidth wireless (WiGig+) and concurrent MIMO systems, will ensure that graduates will be in high demand. Additional topics will be chosen according to relevance including spectrum utilization and associated network design, IP-based wireless systems, enterprise WiFi, Bluetooth, intra-vehicular communication systems used in emerging auto designs (such as used for self-driving cars) and IoT (Internet of Things).

Program Outcomes

  • Test and measure RF (radio frequency) signals, attenuation, and antenna systems with focus on the design and optimization of multiple-input, multiple output (MIMO) antenna systems as well as the LTE protocol.
  • Assist with the preparation and execution of wireless site surveys.
  • Plan and build a wired and/or wireless data or computer network using system design documentation. Applications will include the design of intra-vehicular communications systems.
  • Measure performance of both wired and wireless network components and applications using a variety of basic and advanced network management tools.
  • Produce documentation and reports related to network components and applications performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems related to both wired and wireless networks using standardized approaches and methodologies.
  • Plan, install and upgrade network hardware (e.g. workstations, servers, wireless access points, routers, switches, firewalls, intra-vehicular communication systems) and related components and software according to best practices in the industry.
  • Monitor and evaluate network security issues and perform basic security audits on both wired and wireless networks.
  • Assist in the collection and analysis of user requirements related to both wired and wireless networks.

Graduate Opportunities

Graduates will be well-positioned to work in Canada's telecommunications industry especially at the network planning and optimization level, in IoT applications, and in communications as applied to the automotive (smart car) industry.
