The 2-year MSc programme in Human Nutrition gives you comprehensive knowledge of the importance of nutrition to human health and a thorough understanding of the principles and methods of nutritional science.

The programme is offered in English.

In the course of the programme, you will learn about the conversion of energy and nutrients in the human body, the importance of nutrition in the various stages of life and the effects of nutrition on health and disease. As a graduate you will have extensive expertise in diet, nutrition, and health, enabling you to contribute to solving the global health problems.

As a graduate from the MSc programme in Human Nutrition, you will have a thorough understanding of the principles and methods of nutritional science. You obtain knowledge of the conversion of energy and nutrients and of the importance of the diet in the various stages of life. You also gain insight into the effects of nutrition on health and disease.

Competence description

With an MSc degree in Human Nutrition, you will be familiar with methods of measuring and assessing nutrient intakes and energy requirements. Furthermore, you have knowledge of state-of-the-art methods for monitoring consumption and compliance.

You will also know in depth about evaluation of evidence in nutritional science and about trial methodology in nutrition. This enables you to plan and manage intervention studies and trials investigating aspects of the complex interplay between nutrition and health. You may also be able to carry out prevention initiatives in a public health context.

During the programme all courses are taught in English. You can create an international profile by taking some of your elective or restricted elective courses at one of our partner universities in Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand. You also have plenty of opportunities to write your thesis in collaboration with a private enterprise or as part of a larger scientific project, e.g. by doing a project in practice.

As an MSc in Human Nutrition, you are qualified to become a professional within business functions and/or areas such as:

Trial planning and execution in larger companies
A PhD programme at the university
Product development through innovative laboratory work (start-up companies)
Diet and lifestyle counselling (one-person companies)

Applicants must have a bachelor program or equivalent with the specific major for each program. Other English language requirements: The minimum acceptable score for TOEFL is 560 on the paper test.

If you have completed a Bachelor’s degree or are enrolled in the final semester of a Bachelor’s programme you are eligible to apply for the Master’s programme in Human Nutrition.

IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (overall test score), only the overall score will be considered; TOEFL Internet-based test (IBT) minimum score: 83, ITP TOEFL- test minimum score: 560; Cambridge Advanced (CAE): Passed at level C1 or C2; Cambridge Proficiency (CPE): Passed at level C1 or C2.
