This is a two-year master’s degree programme (120 ECTS credits), which is also available part-time. The study program is taught in English.

Information technology permeates all aspects of society and has become critical to industry, government, and individual well-being. Securing these vital services and structures and the availability of trustworthy information whenever and wherever it is required, has become both an area of intensive research and also of burgeoning commercial activity. A Master of Science Degree in Information Security will provide you with the knowledge and theoretical background, as well as with the requisite skills and attitudes necessary to succeed in this challenging yet important field.

Job prospects

Possible positions after finishing the master’s degree programme:

System development and programming of safety-critical projects (payment systems, play systems, electoral systems, etc.)
Implementation and management of risk
Safety management and safety counselling
Protecting computer system operation safety
Development of secure communications
Research and development

Learning outcome

On successful completion of the programme, candidates are expected to possess learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.

Knowledge

The candidate is capable of demonstrating advanced knowledge in the field of cyber and information security in general and on the following particular topics: computer and network security, security management, incident response, computational and digital forensics, biometrics, privacy, and security of critical infrastructure. The candidate possesses special insight and can demonstrate expertise in information security technology, digital forensics, or security management, depending on the chosen programme track.
The candidate is able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of the current state-of-the-art knowledge in the field of cyber and information security.
The candidate is able to demonstrate an ability to apply knowledge in new areas within cyber and information security, in particular cloud computer security, security on the Internet of Things (IoT), and security of blockchain technology applications.
The candidate is able to demonstrate thorough knowledge of scientific methodology needed to plan and carry out research in the field of cyber and information security under supervision.

Skills

The candidate is able to demonstrate the ability to systematically and independently solve complex problems of research and development in the field of cyber and information security by analysing, formulating sub-tasks, and proposing innovative solutions.
The candidate is able demonstrate an ability to express critical attitudes regarding limitations of existing knowledge in the field of cyber and information security and has the ability to consult other experts in the field in order to solve complex problems of research and development.
The candidate is able to demonstrate a capability to efficiently and successfully manage research and development projects of moderate size and complexity (for example, the master thesis) in the field of cyber and information security.

To qualify for admission, prospective students should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, information technology, computer engineering or similar. Their education must include at least 80 ECTS university level courses in computing where the following topics should be covered:

A grade point average (GPA) of at least C on the bachelor studies is required.

To be eligible to apply you will need to have at least one of the requisites in the list below:
