Programme overview

Composite materials are increasingly replacing traditional metallic components in several industrial applications, such as aerospace engineering, wind turbine blade manufacture and the automotive industry. This MSc provides you with an in-depth theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of advanced composite materials.

The programme is based in the Bristol Composites Institute (ACCIS), which houses a number of state-of-the-art composites manufacturing facilities. ACCIS has strong industrial and research links with major international companies and research centres. ACCIS is collaborating with the National Composites Centre for high technology readiness level research.

Careers

Graduates from this programme could enter a career in one of the rapidly growing composites-related industries, such as aerospace, marine, automotive and wind turbine engineering, materials testing/manufacturing or engineering consultancy. Some of our MSc graduates continue to PhD study.

To be considered for admission to a master's degree programme at the University of Bristol, the minimum requirement for entry is an undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree that is equivalent to a UK upper second-class degree (also known as a 2:1). A CGPA of 3.2 or above is considered equivalent to a UK upper second-class degree. Students need to have an IELTS 6.0 overall with either listening or speaking at 6.5, with no skill below 6.0.

Applicants should also have gained knowledge of Mechanics, Maths and/or Materials within their undergraduate degree. IELTS: 6.5 overall with no score below 6.0; TOEFL iBT: 85 overall with R20, L20, S21, W20; Pearson PTE: 67 average with no skill below 60; Cambridge CAE: Grade B, or Grade C with no skill below 168; Cambridge CPE: Grade C, or Level C1; Trinity Integrated Skills in English (ISE) Level IV: with pass in all skills; Trinity Integrated Skills in English (ISE) Level III: with pass in all skills.
