This work-based, part-time course will help develop the knowledge and skills needed to become a confident and competent General Practice Nurse. Led by lecturers who continue to work in practice, our PGCert in General Practice Nursing is part of the Health Education England General Practice Nursing Training Programme.

Our PGCert in General Practice Nursing is aimed at Preceptors and experienced Nurses looking to transition into Primary Care.
We aim to empower you to learn the foundational knowledge needed to become a skilled General Practice Nurse (GPN) and an accountable member of your practice team.
What will I study?
On this programme, you'll be taught a range of clinical skills in general practice nursing, health promotion and screening as well as the management and assessment of long-term conditions.
Through consultation with other healthcare professionals, you'll consider issues relating to leadership and team working, accountability, quality and governance in order to develop in your role of the General Practice Nurse.
This course will cover:
the NHS Cervical Screening Programme
women and men’s – gender health
national immunisations programme and travel care
ear care
wound management
introduction to several long-term conditions
monitoring and management including:
asthma
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
rheumatoid arthritis
diabetes
dementia
cardiovascular disease
hypertension.
