Professional accreditations
•BSc (Hons) Nursing - Adult has been accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and you will be able to apply for Registered Nurse Status on completion.
•Birmingham City University is the largest trainer of undergraduate nurses in the UK and has the UK’s only contract to train and educate the Armed Forces’ nurses, radiographers and operating department practitioners.
•The Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences (HELS) has been awarded the Skills for Health Quality Mark, in recognition of the high standard of learning and training delivered to the health sector (2019-21).
•Four members of HELS staff have attained the title of 'Queen's Nurse', recognising a high level of commitment to patient care and community nursing practice.
•The University was named Nursing Associate Training Programme Provider of the Year (pre-registration) in 2021†.
Hospital network
Placements will be available across University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. UHB is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England, treating more than 2.2 million people every year. The Trust is also a regional centre for cancer, trauma, renal dialysis, burns and plastics, HIV and AIDS, as well as respiratory conditions, and it is the largest solid organ transplantation programme in Europe.
Work experience
You will spend half your time each year on placement in different hospital and clinical settings, allowing you to engage continuously with practice partners and service users. As a result of this focus on employability, 99% of graduates of the School of Nursing and Midwifery are in work or further study within six months of graduation§.
Facilities
While you are on campus, you will learn on the University’s recently extended £71 million City South Campus – a modern learning environment complete with a simulated operating theatre, mock hospital wards and simulation manikins, allowing you to practise your skills throughout your studies.
