Clean water is essential for our health and economic well-being and globally many communities struggle with water shortage, polluted water and experience disasters such as floods and droughts. Sustainable water management requires an inter-disciplinary perspective as water resources are under increasing pressure through a combination of surface-water and groundwater abstraction, point and diffuse pollution, hydropower development and climate change.
