Why Earn an International Studies Degree?

In response to the increased interest in international issues, the University of North Texas offers a B.A. degree in International Studies. There are five concentration from which students can choose:

International Business Economics
International Development and Humanitarian Affairs
International Security and Diplomacy
Peace Studies
Regional Studies

This major is designed to prepare students for jobs in both the public and private sectors, where globalization is increasing dramatically. These jobs are concentrated in, but not limited to:

International Politics
International Law
International Security
International and Development Economics
International Business
International Organization
Human Rights
Global Environmental and Population Issues

Apart from emphasizing the development of one's future career, the International Studies program will also increase students' awareness and understanding of global issues such as:

• Security/Peace topics
• Issues concerning world population trends
• International trade and business topics
• Weapons of mass destruction proliferation
• International Diplomacy
• Terrorism/Political Violence
• Development and underdevelopment

The program also aims at increasing students' appreciation of world history, cultures, politics, economics, geography, literature, and the arts. In addition to giving the students the needed educational background in the above areas, the major provides the students with the skills in foreign languages as well as analytical and scientific thinking.
