Russian: Culture Focused Emphasis
Learn the Russian language while gaining a deep understanding of Russian culture through the study of literature, film and more. Students wishing to earn their Bachelor of Arts in Russian can follow one of two tracks. The Culture Focused emphasis helps students become well versed not only in the Russian language but also in heritage. Undergraduates will complete a series of language courses and choose from a robust list of electives covering topics such as food, folklore and the cultural impact of historical events, all in taught English. Each summer, the Department of Russian and Slavic Studies also offers Russian majors’ opportunities to study abroad in Moscow or Kazakhstan with a focus on language and cultural immersion. Graduates go on to fill government, business and non-profit roles.
Russian: Language Focused Emphasis
If you want to graduate with Russian language proficiency or study Russian at the graduate level, then the language-intensive track of the Russian major is for you. Students aspiring to earn their Bachelor of Arts in Russian have the Language Focused emphasis option for total language immersion. In addition to the required 23 units of rigorous language-based courses, students select seven units of historical- and cultural-based electives from the Russian and Slavic Studies Department. The department also offers opportunities to study abroad in Kazakhstan or Russia. The renowned and long-standing Arizona in Russia program brings together students from all over the United States to receive special language instruction in Moscow. This emphasis prepares students for graduate studies, a variety of job roles, or to gain employment in Russian-speaking regions of the world.

Students must have high school equivalent to USA and entry requirements vary from country to country. International applicants whose primary language is not English, or who attended school in a non-English speaking country, regardless of citizenship, must prove English proficiency.
