The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology will focus on IT infrastructure, project management and integration, systems and network administration, security, and IT architecture.

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program prepares students with broad foundation in the areas such as Computer Applications, Software Development, Database, Computer Networking and Systems Administration, Programming, Human-Computer Interaction, Web Development and Server Administration, Cloud Computing, and Cyber Security. All students' learning experiences are culminated by the senior design experience with an in-depth project that develops a real-life IT solution.

Program Educational Objectives

The objectives of the B.S. program in Information Technology at School of Information Security and Applied Computing as defined by ABET is the abilities of the alumni three to five years after graduation will be:

Function successfully in field of Information technology and communicate effectively to design, implement, and evaluate solutions to IT and security technical problems. Advance professionally through increasing level of responsibility of information technology, and/or by transitioning into leadership position in industry, government and/or education.
Actively seeking life-long learning through self-study, completion of advanced degree(s), continuing education, and IT related certification(s)/licensure or other professional development related to their career.
Demonstrate ethical, social, and professional commitment to community by applying technical skills and knowledge to support various service activities.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)

The SLOs in IT program are adapted from ABET General Criteria 3 for Accrediting Computing Programs. Thus, the following learning outcomes will be attained by students upon their graduation:

Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
Identify and analyze user needs and to take them into account in the selection, creation, integration, evaluation and administration of computing-based systems.

According to US Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 12% from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations. The area of IT professionals includes:

EMU admits students on a sliding scale based primarily on a combination of high school grade point average. If you have a high GPA, you may be admitted even if your test score is below our average. If you have a high test score, you may be admitted with a lower-than-average GPA.

The average student coming to EMU directly from high school has a GPA of 3.28

Full admission minimum test scores can be found below:

Pearson English Language Test (PTE): 44
